We were commissioned to prepare numerous Flood Risk Assessment and Drainage Management Strategies for the above parcels of development for a planning application for 173 residential dwellings. A portion of the proposed development area was cited within Flood Zones 2 and 3 and identified within Cumbria County Council’s Strategic Flood Risk Assessment as an area at potential flood risk. The extent of the existing floodplain was not clearly defined therefore we modelled the adjacent watercourse which allowed the potential flood risk to be more accurately identified. Flood risk mitigation was proposed in the form of minimum habitable floor levels and some displacement of floodplain was offset through the lowering of levels elsewhere. The scheme was approved by the Environment Agency and the works successfully undertaken. Betts Associates also undertook the Civil and Structural Engineering aspects of this project.
